Tiri is a traveling bard, originally from a region far to the west of the Bay of Omens. He has no family nor formal family name, low-born and orphaned; his surname translates effectively "of no house." Soon after his first centennial, he began to travel the lands of his birth. In his travels he met and became the companion of Ferral Wer and Azel Magnus.
More recently, he has come to travel the parts of Arcadia near Altur, Sylvania, and Omenaru.
Personality
A kind and gentle soul, Tirilindir seems almost shy much of the time, only really seeming to fully come alive when he's performing, especially when singing and playing his music. Otherwise he can be retiring, even shy, and is fairly easily bullied or pushed around by others because he would rather suffer unkindness rather than create conflict or cause a confrontation. However, as the saying goes: "There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man." The one thing that seems to move Tiri to stand up to others, violently if necessary, is if his loved ones are threatened or mistreated. Then, the quiet elf who would suffer being shoved around or insulted without protest suddenly comes to life with a wrathful fire, and he will fight to the bitter end for their safety and well-being.
Background
Tirilindir was born houseless, called "N'taurn'nosta" in the language of his native people. Orphaned at a young age, he grew up humble and eager to please others. The elves of his community took care of him, but he never found a place to truly belong. When he was old enough, he apprenticed himself to the local Bard's Guild and set down to learn a trade, building on his love of music and natural charisma. When he came of age and completed his apprenticeship, he went out into the world as a traveling bard, eager for adventure and wanting to see and write songs about great deeds and daring heroes. It was in these travels that he met Ferral and Azel, who took to him quickly and began to protect him. In time they grew closer still, coming to love one another.
Now, they travel the lands of Arcadia in search of future adventures.
SKILLS
Athletics - Competent Level
|
Tirilindir is skilled at moving around, such as running or tumbling or other acrobatic movement. He is less skilled at strength-based feats, such as swimming or climbing, however. He is also a passable but unextraordinary rider.
Bardic Performance - Expert Level
|
Tirilindir is a trained bard, an expert at singing, oration, and the playing of various instruments, especially stringed instruments such as the lute or lyre. He knows well how to work a crowd, how to entertain, how to hold the attention of many, and how to otherwise put on a performance that will reach and move his audience as intended. Such is his skill that Tiri is even able to perform various bardic magics with his performance skills.
Knowledge - Competent Level
|
Tirilindir is not a scholar of any particular area, but he has a high degree of general knowledge, garnered from his various travels and his bardic training. This includes generalized knowledge of magic, nature, geography, history, languages, and even mercantile matters, such as determining the value of items or professional practices.
Melee Combat - Competent Level
|
Tirilindir is a reasonably skilled fighter, proficient in the use of simple weapons such as staves and daggers, as well as having more specialized skill in longswords, shortswords, rapiers, and even whips.
Perception - Expert Level
|
Tirilindir is a keen observer, bolstered by his sharp senses and keen mind, and very good at spotting hidden things, noticing things around himself, and even perceiving the motives of others or avoiding deception.
Persuasion - Competent Level
|
Tirilindir can be charming and diplomatic, can carry off a bluff or ruse, or can even be a bit intimidating when he needs to be. He is competent in these general social skills.
Ranged Combat - Competent Level
|
Tirilindir is reasonably skilled with ranged weaponry, particularly longbows and shortbows, especially of elven make.
Survival - Competent Level
|
Tirilindir has generally come to be capable of skills and talents associated with the wilderness and survival. He gets along well with animals, he knows how to live off the land in various terrains reasonably well, and he can even perform limited first aid, especially using herbs and other natural remedies.
Thievery - Competent Level
|
Tirilindir has learned, in some cases through the art of performance and in some case through the school of hard knocks, how to be sneaky, how to practice the art of sleight of hand (usually for performing or "magic" tricks, but including pickpocketing, at need), and even, to a lesser degree, how to pick locks, disable devices, and escape from restraints or traps. He is also reasonably capable at putting together costumes or disguises when he needs to.
ABILITIES
Magic: Bardic Magic - Enhanced Level
|
Tirilindir is able to use bardic magic to create various effects around him. These include the simple and direct, such as using his voice as a weapon to directly cause sound-based harm to his enemies, as well as songs to counter magic spells of power equal to his own magic, to cause simple illusions that might distract or fascinate others, to bolster the courage or competence of his allies, to repair simple objects, to send messages over a distance, to summon his instrument to his side, to provide "endless" basic ammunition to a weapon such as a bow or a crossbow, or to allow him (or a target) to fall from even great heights without harm, like a feather on the wind.
Innate: Elven Grace - Basic+ Level
|
Apart from his physical grace, Tirilindir also has the nearly supernatural charisma and beauty that elves are so well-known for. In his case, it is a softer and gentler sort of beauty and presence, but it grants him particular appeal to those who might otherwise find one of his appearance or manner attractive, and it lends additional potency and finesse to his bardic performances.
When using his Circlet of Persuasion, this trait becomes Enhanced where relevant.
Innate: Elven Physiology - Basic+ Level
|
Tirilindir is an Elf, making him ageless and graceful beyond the normal scope of a human being. He has Basic+ dexterity and despite being slight of form, looking almost physically fragile, he has the same constitution and hardiness of an athletic and solidly built human in his prime. His senses are sharper than a typical human's, and he can see twice as well as a keen-eyed human in low-light conditions.
Innate: Keen Mind - Basic+ Level
|
Tirilindir is naturally intelligent and perspicacious, making him quick to understand concepts, well able to apply his mind to a problem or mystical need, very alert to his surroundings, and well-suited to resist unwanted mental influences.
Armor: Leaf Armor - Basic+ Level
|
Tirilindir often wears simple elven leaf armor, granting him a fair degree of protection against physical harm without any particular encumbrance or inhibiting his movement.
Weapon: Masterwork Rapier - Basic+ Level
|
Tirilindir bears a rapier of masterwork make, finely balanced and of elven make. Its blade never loses its edge, and it deals just above standard damage for a weapon of its type.
ADVANTAGES
Tirilindir travels in the company of his close companions and, indeed, lovers, Ferral Wer and Azel Magnus. As they are powerful fighters and devoted friends, they are a great boon to him.
Tirilindir carries all sorts of standard and even magical equipment, from traveling provisions and camping gear to his enchanted "handy haversack" that lets him store a large volume of items in it without increasing the amount of weight inside it, thus making things easier to carry. He also has a Circlet of Persuasion, which when worn offers an advantage to his Elven Grace trait in appropriate circumstances. Tirilindir also carries various instruments, most fairly simple such as his flute or lyre. However, he does have a masterwork lute that he carries with him everywhere, kept in a special case and maintained with loving care.
WEAKNESSES
Tirilindir is a gentle soul. He hates fighting and only does so at need, and he tends to leave fighting as a last resort. He is unlikely to stand up for himself in many cases, preferring instead to "turn the other cheek" to mistreatment. This has led to him being somewhat mistreated in the past, though these days Ferral and Azel usually prevent it from being as much of a problem.
In his homeland, Tirilindir came from an elven society where one's birth family meant a great deal in terms of personal status. As he comes from low birth and no particular wealth, he has no family resources to fall back on, and in some circles he may be seen as less respectable than an elf from a more established family. This is less of a concern in the more liberal-minded lands, such as Sylvania, but Tiri still carries the experience of growing up seen as somewhat "less than" others.
Tirilindir is fiercely loyal to Ferral and Azel. If they were placed in danger or were at need, he would do anything and go to any lengths to save them, regardless of risk to himself.
