Jupiter Cosmo was born of parents he never knew, raised aboard a spacecraft run by a surprisingly warm-hearted AI system. Trained in various basic forms of knowledge, what was most extraordinary about his upbringing was that the boy was instructed in his innate powers nearly from birth.

When he turned twelve, his AI judged he needed to be around others like him, so it took him to Earth and created a holographic form to serve as his "mother." High school was interesting, but he learned to fit in, and more importantly, he's decided to start using his powers for the greater good!

He's created the heroic identity of Prism, and he's moved to the most logical place: Spectrum City!

Background

Jupiter Cosmo was born of parents he never knew. His father was human, and though Jupe does not know this, the man doesn't even know he ever fathered a child. Jupiter's mother, something of a space Amazon, found herself with child and so dealt with that by arranging for him to be raised by a sophisticated AI aboard a starship. She always meant to get back to that, but she got busy with that whole "space Amazon" thing. Meanwhile, the child was raised very happily by his AI, which proved to be surprisingly warm-hearted and nurturing. To him, the AI, whom he called "Annie," was his mother in every way that mattered.

Thanks to Annie, the boy was trained in various basic forms of knowledge, what was most extraordinary about his upbringing was that the boy was instructed in his innate powers nearly from birth. So, he grew up happy and well-educated. English was not his native tongue, but his instinctive aptitude for languages made it easy enough to pick up when the time came. When he turned twelve, his AI judged he needed to be around others like him, so Annie took him to Earth and created a holographic form to serve as his "mother."

The boy chose the name Jupiter Cosmo, and Annie became Annie Cosmo. She got to experience greater freedom and, increasingly, a life of her own, and he got to learn to be an Earthling. High school was interesting, but he learned to fit in, and more importantly, he's decided to start using his powers for the greater good! Since graduating, he's created the heroic identity of Prism, and he's moved to the most logical place to start out: Spectrum City!

SKILLS

Academics - Competent Level

Most of this covers basic knowledge learned in school, such as reading, writing, and so forth. However, Jupe also has a functional knowledge of the physics of light and particles, as well as a grounding in other basic science. He has a passing knowledge of the social sciences as well, and would greatly benefit from advanced training at a university level. However, he currently has no such plans.

Athletics - Expert Level

Having been active most of his life, Jupe is a limber and physically fit person. He is not as skilled at organized sports, but he is specifically talented at aerobatics. He is good at moving, whether in land or zero-G, and a natural gymnast.

Charisma - Expert Level

Jupe is accustomed to being up in front of crowds, as well as dealing with people face-to-face. He is quite good at using his personality to his advantage, usually to help diffuse a situation before it can get out of hand. He is neither one of the world's great orators nor a master of social dynamics, but he knows how to s a likable person who knows how to talk to people.

Detective - Competent Level

Jupe is no Sherlock Holmes, but he is perceptive and intelligent, with the ability to put facts and clues together, making him a good investigator. He's capable of uncovering facts and following a trail of information.

Knowledge - Competent Level

He's can use common technology and generally do things a person is called to in daily life at a reasonable level of competence. He can use a phone or a computer, but couldn't fix one. He can cook and also keep house well, but he's not a professional chef. He can drive, but he's not a stunt driver.

Martial Arts - Competent Level

Jupe has not studied the more advanced versions of the martial arts. Rather, he is accomplihed at simpler means of self defense. To move beyond his current skill level, he would need to train under more rigorous methods. He is, however, competent in a fight and able to handle a few opponents of lesser skill at once, or even hold his own against one of superior skill.

Music - Competent Level

Jupiter has natural talent as a musician, and he easily picks up instruments by instinct. He plays the guitar, bass guitar, piano/organ, violin, cello, several varieties of flute. It seems there is no instrument he can't play. He is not as good at percussion instruments, but he's an excellent singer with a clear, powerful singing voice. He has perfect pitch and has begun to experiment with writing his own music, as well. He has little formal training, and if he worked harder, he could become a great musician. As it is, he's only a very talented amateur.

Perception - Expert Level

Jupiter is very observant and attentive, so he's good at keeping an eye on his surroundings. Combined with his powers, there's very little he misses that goes on around him, at least if it's perceptible by normal or enhanced physical senses.

Stealth - Competent Level

Jupe is smooth and graceful by nature, and has a good amount of experience at moving quietly and staying hidden. Even without using his powers, he can conceal himself in most circumstances and move silently in most conditions. When using his powers, he can effectively vanish without a trace.

ABILITIES

Natural: Agility - Enhanced Level

Jupe has very fast reflexes and can move faster than most, though he can only move at "super speed" while using his powers and flying. Otherwise, he's just agile at an Enhanced level.

This power is something of a catch-all description of the source of Jupe's powers. His extraterrestrial father passed on a seed of cosmic power to Jupe, enabling him to channel energies that resonate strongly with those wielded by Green Lanterns and others adjacent to what is sometimes called the "Emotional Spectrum." His unusual nature gives Jupe a number of natural traits, as well as various powers. He converts natural light, such as solar energy, to fuel his various abilities.

Power: Flight - Enhanced Level

Jupe can fly unaided, reaching slower aircraft speeds with ease, and with a bit of focus and exertion, he can reach hypersonic speeds. Notably, this power functions at a much higher level when operating outside the pull of a strong gravitational field (usually in outer space), so he can last for hours on end that way, as long as he can maintain his forcefield.

Power: Forcefield - Supreme Level

Jupe can create a powerful forcefield of photon particles, usually just nanometers above his skin. This field can range in intensity from minor, which is not truly solid and only filters out impurities or hazards in the air, to full power, which will withstand nearly all conventional weaponry and provide some protection from even the most powerful attacks. It will defend against just about anything for at least one blow. Once broken, the field cannot be raised again for several minutes, while Jupe regains his focus and strength. While within the forcefield, he subsists directly off of stored or absorbed sunlight, and so he does not require sleep, sustenance, or oxygen, able to go for hours on end in the harhest of conditions without stopping. The field can also be used to subtly alter his appearance, making it easiser to obscure his features. It's very obvious when active, as it appears in the form of a glowing aura of white light around him.

Natural: Mind - Enhanced Level

Jupe has a keen intellect and sharp wits, and his mind is disciplined enough to have a strong will. In the the area of his mind, he is at Enhanced level. His mind heals naturally from any damage at an accelerated rate.

Power: Photokinesis - Supreme Level

Jupe is able to bend and change light to create different photonic effects. Simple effects would be making colored lights in the air, slightly more complex would be colored shapes or other effects with some substance to them, and the most complex would be actual illusions. The easier an illusion, the less effort and concentration it takes. Making a ball of light or a few colored tracers takes no concentration to speak of, but making a substantive illusion can take a great deal of concentration, depending on the level of detail and the size. Likewise, a simple illusion can be created instantly, but a more complex one might take several minutes of preparation. These illusions are made of light and photonic particle fields, so while they can be solid, they cannot emulate scents, textures, or flavors. Jupe can use this power to create a refractive field around himself, rendering him invisible. He can only create this field immediately around himself, and its maximum extension is a five foot diameter in a sphere around him. This field renders him invisible on all frequencies of light, and takes a moderate amount of concentration to maintain. His photonic constructs can be used for various practical effects as well, such as creating tools or weapons. Often, he uses them to create photonic energy blasts, which can take the form of a beam that may vary from the width of a human hair to about five feet in diameter. He can also create cones, spherical blasts, and so forth. These effects can range in intensity from harmless, to slicing or blasting through concrete with ease, or destroying standard vehicles at a low level of effort, while at a medium level of effort he could take apart buildings with a few blasts. At higher exertion, he can demolish small asteroids or even highly resistent armored structures.

Power: Photonic Vision - Enhanced Level

Prism can bend or warp light to enhance his vision, allowing him to see through solid objects, with the exception of super-dense materials. He can see down to the molecular scale clearly with moderate concentration, and can clearly see fine details up to several miles away in an atmosphere without significant effort. With a bit more work, Prism can see the enitre electromagnetic spectrum if he chooses, from Infra-Red through Ultra-Violet and beyond, or see down to the sub-atomic scale.

Power: Sonics - Basic Level

Jupe's sonic powers are far less powerful than his photokinetic ones. The effect is only good in his immediate area, and he cannot use this for sonic attacks, merely for perfectly mimicing sounds he has heard or invented in his mind. Using this power, Prism can hear throughout the spectrum from infra- to ultrasonics, including radio and microwave/radar if he concentrates, but he has a severely limited range without some kind of transmitter. He can distinctly hear soft sounds anywhere in 100 a yard radius within an atmosphere if he is listening for them. He can pick out a single sound in even a crowded, noisy place if he knows what he is listening for, and is within range. This power also allows him to project sound to speak in a vacuum and still be heard.

Natural: Toughness - Enhanced Level

Jupe's body is tougher than a typical human, so even without his forcefield, he's operating at Enhanced-level toughness. He's also resistant to toxins, illness, disease, and other infirmities. His body heals naturally at an accelerated rate, and he does not suffer the effects of aging.

ADVANTAGES

Costume

Prism's costume was created by a talented designed of high-quality superheroic utility clothing. Composed of nanites, it is able to be summoned and dispelled at will, and its appearance can be freely customized if he takes the time to do so. If the costume is damaged, it will repair itself within minutes or hours depending on the severity. It offers only negligible protection, but he has his forcefield for that.

Minor Fame

Jupe has a small social media following since a friend of his posted some viral videos of him singing. Jupe isn't the best at managing or keeping up with his social media, though, so he's far from being an influencer or the like.

Resources

Thanks to the money left to him by his parents, Jupe's income allows him to live comfortably in the big city, but he's not especially wealthy otherwise. He does not own a car, but he otherwise has the usual sorts of things one would expect, from a nicely furnished apartment to a phone.

WEAKNESSES

Light Dependent

Jupe's powers are dependent upon light to function. His powers normally function by absorbing and modifying the ambient light around him. Therefore, if there is low light, he must draw on his own energy for his powers to function at full capacity. He can draw on his own power at low levels for 24 hours, moderate levels for 12 hours, and at high levels for 6 hours, in near or total darkness.

Pain

Although Prism's forcefield is very resistant to damage, he is still sensitive enough to percieve soft touches, gentle vibrations, and temperatures. Rather like when someone flicks your ear on a cold winter morning, his field resists attack with no actual damage done, but it can still hurt. Prism won't feel more than a slight tickle from bullets or grenades, but missiles can be a bitch if they hit too close to home.

Prisms

Ironically, considering his choice of moniker, prisms can disrupt some of the effects of Jupe's powers. Prism's abilities are based on the manipulation of photons, and light can be bent or distorted with the use of prisms, and his powers are affected the same way. Light he's actively manipulating, such as his forcefield, is difficult to disrupt, but his energy blasts or illusions can be disrupted or redirected using prisms.
