Tyson is a former jock, accidental witch and literal hothead.

Personality

Ty is stubborn, hotheaded, fiery and passionate about most things. He's also a little self-conscious about being a not a particularly gifted witch and about sometimes getting out of control. He tries for the classic tough guy routine and to some degree, that is who he is, because of his upbringing and environment, but he's also a loyal friend and generally tries to do the right thing. Admittedly, 'right' and 'legal' are not always the same thing and he's okay with that. At the core of things, Ty yearns for the security and love he never had as a kid and he will rain down hell on people who he thinks are abusing innocents. Outwardly, he says it is because he hates bullies. Inwardly, it's because nobody ever came to his rescue.

Background

Tyson grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, in one of the less advantaged neighborhoods. It wasn't quite like living in a trailer park, but it was close. Several generations of his family lived near each other on the same street in old, shabby houses that were cheap thanks to the crime and urban blight around them. The Wrights were a clannish family, given to petty criminality, substance abuse and casual cruelty. Ty's father, James, respected nothing but strength and brutality, which is why the boy was named after two boxers from the man's youth. Conditioned to compete with one another for affection and resources, Ty's siblings and he were not close, growing up. But god help the outsider who bothered one of them. The only two people he trusted were his older brother, Graham, and his grandmother, Ella. The former was a role model who didn't push Ty around that much and taught him 'how to act', the latter was a source of stories of witches and demons and terrible fates that made the boy's hair stand on end. And cookies. Lots of cookies. Despite the baked bribes, he was basically her only grandchild who would spend time with her.

Tyson excelled at sports, partially because of natural talent and partially because it was a way to deflect his father's wrath. And though the elder Wright would scoff at the boy's choice of sports, he was happy to take the trophies and medals down to the corner bar and brag on how well he'd raised his son. For good or ill, that world ended in Tyson's sophomore year of high school. Graham turned 18 and immediately joined the marines, giving over his two prized possessions, a leather jacket handed down from their grandfather and his '92 Corolla he named 'Loretta'. The pressure in the family immediately became much worse, as James was livid that Graham 'ran off' without consulting him, refused to continue working for his demolition and hauling business and 'abandoned the family'. A lot of that pressure (and a lot of the punches) fell on Tyson, who did his best please his father. All the while, the pressure built and Tyson could feel a heat and anger rising. Small, strange things happened. Candles igniting in the house and nobody knew who lit them, the smell of wood burning at school with no evident source.

All of it came to a head when, after a disastrous ball game, James cornered Tyson in the gym locker room and slammed the boy into a wall hard enough to cause a seizure. All of that anger exploded out in a blast that wiped out the school gym and incinerated James instantly. Tyson walked out of the flames, dazed and naked but alive several minutes later.

It was when he got home from the hospital that his grandmother rather belatedly informed Tyson that he was likely a witch, as her mother had been. Sometimes it skipped a generation. She gave him all the information she had, which wasn't much and told him he'd need to seek his fortune elsewhere as a danger to the family. Ty agreed and left, working under the table and taking odd jobs, hearing rumors and references to a town where 'weird shit' was common. He headed there, hoping to find somebody who could help him learn about his 'gifts' and picking up a few tricks along the way.

SIGNATURE ABILITY

Scion of Flames

When Tyson is fatally wounded, mortally injured or otherwise would die, his magic turns inward on himself, creating a burning pyre around his body that will, after some time (dependent on how long it has been since his last 'death') explode outward in an overpressure generating fireball. This tends to be destructive for anything around him, within about twenty feet. For Tyson, though, it is a rebirth. After the explosion, the mystic flames flow back into the shape of his body and he reintegrates, whole and living, but drained and unable to do much more than stagger a few minutes before passing out.

This ability only triggers on the condition of actual death, rather than near death or just being horribly mangled. But when it does trigger, it removes any ailments or infirmities he might have had and resets his age to his late teens. Multiple 'deaths' within a limited period create smaller and smaller explosions that take longer and longer to build up. Seconds to minutes to hours to days or even weeks. Because none of this is under Ty's control, he is NOT inclined to lightly test this ability. He doesn't know how it works or why, or if it will work the next time something fatal happens and he's not inclined to push his luck that much.

SKILLS

Academics - Novice Level

Alchemy - Novice Level

Brewing potions is one of a witch's signature abilities. By combining various reagents, herbs, and other ingredients according to mystic recipes and using magical practices, witches are able to produce magic in a bottle, salve, or other such preparations. A major strength of potions is allowing a complex effect to be prepared ahead of time, then rendered portable for quick enactment at the time of need. This means that one of the great strengths of a witch is being able to brew up magic in advance, removing any need for casting or incantations when they are put to use.

Athletics - Competent Level

Tyson was all-state level Gymnast and shortstop until recently. He keeps himself very fit.

Cooking - Novice Level

Driving - Competent Level

Fighting - Competent Level

Named after two boxers and grew up in a rough area. He's a good scrapper.

Mechanic - Novice Level

Duct tape and 'technical taps' can handle most problems with his beater car.

Occultism - Novice Level

The occult Craft includes herbalism, spellcraft, research, the preparation and performance of rituals, awareness of the supernatural world, and more. A practicing witch is competent and versed in all these things, understanding the properties of plants and their role in magic, knowing a variety of spells and how to use them, and certainly knows how to seek out information they don't already have. Whether based on their own knowledge or using a grimoire, they are able to recognize, analyze, and counter spells, and even come up with original spells or alter existing ones.

ABILITIES

Magic: Wild Talent - Enhanced Level

Tyson's grasp of magic comes from strong instincts, deep magical potential and emotion. He can sling fire bolts and wax pyrokinetic on the level of a competent witch, rather than a novice one. He can also work with the conceptual aspects of fire. He can invoke passion and anger, a 'burning desire' for sex or wealth or whatever. He can also use his magic flames to purify and cleanse, albeit with some blisters and singing. Basically, he can tap into the things for which fire is a metaphor. Ty's magic is less about being able to use fire and more being a scion of flame itself.

WEAKNESSES

Boredom

Maybe it is undiagnosed ADD or ADHD. Maybe it is an excess of energy. Maybe it's just the fact that he sucks down about 1000mg of caffeine a day, but if Tyson doesn't have some kind of stimulation going on, he does his best Australian Cattle Dog impersonation and goes to find something 'interesting' to do. Usually something he probably shouldn't be doing.

Hotheaded

Tyson is not the most retiring and level-headed of young men. When he thinks he's being insulted, threatened or sees a situation that pisses him off (generally involving strong people abusing weaker ones), he tends to act first and think about the consequences or complexities later.
