Simon Xavier St. Vesper was born in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. His mother, a powerful demon, did not stick around to raise him, but she did set him up with caretakers.

Raised by arcane constructs, young Simon had a happy and relatively normal life...well, normal to him. From the outside looking in, it was very Addams Family. Either way, it was happy. When he turned thirteen, he did a tour of other planes for a few years, getting to know his mom. She's cool, and really not evil, just super anti-establishment. It was educational.

Now, he's back on Earth in Port-Au-Feu, just bumming around and looking for what's next.

Background

Simon Xavier St. Vesper was born in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. His mother, a powerful demon named Asherah, did not stick around to raise him, but she did set him up with caretakers. His family were golems, but they were expertly made and very nurturing. Frankly, he had a much better experience growing up than many children ever do. He was happy and very well-adjusted, even if from the outside looking in, it was all very Addams Family. On Simon's thirteenth birthday, his mother returned, and they had an emotional reunion. She made up for lost time by whisking him away on an extended tour of other planes for a few years, and the two got to know one another. Simon learned that his mother seemed very cool. She wasn't really evil, just super anti-establishment. It was quite an education. He even came to be called "X" by many in the otherworld, and he still treasures that nickname. He eventually asked to return to Earth, and his mother did as he wanted. He didn't ask for any material wealth, so she let him strike out on his own. It probably builds character. No doubt she'll check up on him again at some point to see if he needs anything. Now, he's back on Earth in Port-Au-Feu, just bumming around and looking for what's next. He's also perfectly happy with that.

He knows a fair bit about a lot of things, but he's not really an expert in any one area.

He's in excellent shape with well-developed strength, agility, coordination, and stamina.

Awareness - Expert Level

He's highly attentive and alert, so he tends to be keenly aware of his surroundings.

Charm - Competent Level

He's naturally charismatic and good at relating to others, though he's not an expert charmer. He can be deceptive when he needs to be, but he's not deeply manipulative or a master deceiver.

Empathy - Expert Level

Highly attuned to the emotions of others, he's very good at reading others and discerning their moods and feelings.

Occult - Expert Level

He has a broad occult education but, for most broader areas of lore, he is only competent. However, when it comes to skill in wielding his own magics, he is an expert.

He is competent at surviving, both in nature and in urban settings.

Thief - Expert Level

Sometimes, being sneaky and fleet-fingered can be terribly helpful. He's developed great skill at legerdemain, pickpocketing, lock-picking, stealth, and other such skills.

Unarmed Combat - Competent Level

He was trained by his mother in unarmed combat, and while he lacks her expertise, he's fully competent when it comes to getting into and out of a scrap.

ABILITIES

Innate: Demonic Mind - Enhanced Level

Demons often have vastly powerful minds, and while Simon has yet to display the full level of power that one such as his mother has, he has a mind that is faster, sharper, and more strong-willed than typical humans, placing his mental traits all at Enhanced level.

Innate: Demonic Physique - Enhanced Level

While Simon looks like an ordinary human, he's stronger, faster, and more durable than a typical human. His physical capabilities all operate at the Enhanced level. He's immune to disease or ailments, highly resistant to toxins or other hazards, and he does not experience aging or the breakdown of his physical health due to time or entropy.

Magic: Shadowmancy - Supreme Level

Simon is able to summon, conjure, and control shadows, both in the literal sense as it applies to normal shadows, but also in terms of supernatural shadows. He can cause shadows to behave like solid objects that move and flow like liquid, are rigidly solid, or diffuse like mist. These shadows can serve as weapons or defenses, they can cause darkness or chilling effects, and they can link with other shadows, allowing him to gaze distantly through them, step from shadow to shadow, or even create gates to travel through them. Simon can also assume a shadow form, becoming essentially non-corporeal and losing any need to breathe or otherwise sustain biological functions. He can use shadows to create minor enchantments as well, imbuing objects or shadow constructs with minor spells, ranging from simple cantrips to utility spells. With the right spell formula, he can cast at least reasonably effective versions of most commonplace spells, though in terms of flashier magic, such as would be used in combat, he's limited to his direct shadow manipulation.

ADVANTAGES

Adaptable

Simon's life has been deeply strange by most standards, and it's led him to being remarkably well-adjusted and adaptable. Very little seems able to dampen his spirit, and he seems able to adapt to just about any conditions. He could be trapped in a chaos storm in the middle of a realm of wild magic, and by dinner time he'd probably have found a way to make himself perfectly comfortable.

Gear

Simon carries a variety of helpful gear, including a magically powered cell phone, some camping gear, some clothes, a pendant "blessed" by his mother, and even a respectable personal grimoire. His possessions are few but quite precious to him, as most of them were given to him by his mother.

Mother

Simon's mother is named Asherah, a potent elder demon known for her prowess as a warrior and general rabble-rouser. She has traditionally offered her favor to downtrodden women and men who were kept on the outside of the social order, especially when rejected by religious traditions. She has no known connection to any goddesses of the same name, but she's a pretty big deal in the Otherworld, and being her son opens certain doors for Simon. She's not always around, but when she is, she's also a very powerful ally.

WEAKNESSES

Holy Powers

Simon is especially vulnerable to holy or divine energies, taking roughly twice as much harm from them than he would otherwise. He is not harmed by holy ground, though it can feel a bit off to him, and holy water just smells terrible. Holy magics and powers are just not good for him.

Oddity

Simon is, in short, weird. He grew up strangely, and he's wandered far afield from normative human experiences. As comfortable and adaptable as he is in unusual or supernatural situations, he's also a bit ignorant of how to just be "normal," so he sometimes has difficulty fitting in, especially with the normies.

Poverty

Simon does not own any valuable property, nor does he have any means of income. He doesn't even have a social security number, as far as he knows. He takes this in stride, but in a very material world, he is lacking in the kinds of personal wealth that tend to be needed to get by without, say, sleeping under bridges.
