Hector is the owner and proprietor of
The Lodge, the premier bed and breakfast on
Gentleman's Bluff, an island just off the coast near
Queen's Cove. He has secretly been around for longer than he looks, and has a dachshund companion named Federico. Federico isn't a secret, though.
Background
Long ago now, the warlock known as Hector was just the guy known as Hector Reymundo! But after being born and all the business of growing up, he ended up being tempted to learn the mystic arts. It was probably from all the magic on the island of Gentleman's Bluff. He truly became a son of the island, as he thought of it, by learning its rich magical history.
At some point, he decided to put himself into magical sleep, but for some reason, he slept much longer than intended and was only awakened by unexpected events. However, it didn't slow him down much, and he quickly got his Lodge running as a bed-and-breakfast. Quickly enough, Gentleman's Bluff came together more. It became slightly less sleepy and slightly more exciting, but it still has all the charm and magic it always had.
SKILLS
Academics - Competent Level
While less fully immersed in the most current studies, Hector has gained considerable academic knowledge over the years.
Animal Ken - Competent Level
Hector is not an animal trainer, but he is very good at relating to them and caring for them, especially his dog, Federico.
Athletics - Competent Level
Hector is quite fit and innately agile, so athleticism comes to him quite naturally.
Charisma - Expert Level
Used to dealing with people, Hector has a natural charm and is very good at relating to others and making them feel welcome.
Domestics - Expert Level
Having run a household himself and with only a bit of magic to aid him for many years, Hector is an expert at all aspects of maintaining a comfortable and welcoming home, from decorating and cooking to cleaning and maintaining it.
Herbalism - Expert Level
As both an experienced alchemist and practitioner of survival skills, Hector is very familiar with plants and herbs. He has made a special study of this area, and he is very familiar with how to grow, tend, forage for, and harvest an expansive variety of plants, as well as being able to use them for preparations of varying sorts, both magical and mundane.
Survival - Competent Level
Though not the most dedicated survivalist, Hector is very comfortable in nature and is quite good at identifying, understanding, and interacting with various animals and plants.
ABILITIES
Power: Awareness - Enhanced Level
With fae blood and long years of having practiced magic, Hector has developed keen senses and magical awareness. This allowed him to perceive the presence of spells, enchantments, or supernatural creatures nearby quite effectively, and it is difficult to fool him with illusions or other deceptions. Perhaps most notably, with meditative focus he is able to decouple his consciousness from his physical body, leaving it in a comatose state, to astrally project his mind and observe other, distant places without physically moving at all.
Power: Divination - Enhanced Level
The witch is able to use Divination at an Enhanced level to sense the location of objects and substances, sense unobscured emotional or magical auras, sense extremely likely upcoming events in a person's future, or predict upcoming changes in the weather. The range of this ability is usually limited to a few dozen miles, such as within a large city, and the complexity of the landscape also plays a factor. With concentration, he is also able to read the past experiences of an object or location via psychometry, gaining special insight into strong impressions left behind.
The more mentally or geographically diverse the area, the more limited in scope this Divination tends to be. For minor events, forecasting tends to be limited to the next day or so, while extremely significant events might be hinted at months or even years in advance, though what exactly is revealed is not always reliable. Use of Divination tends to require a tool, even if just as simple as a mirror, dowsing rod, or pendulum. Forecasting tools, such as tarot cards, might allow more reliable fortunetelling that extends farther out, but results will vary.
Innate: Physique - Enhanced Level
As a one with strong fae blood, Hector is ageless and regenerates from any harm done to him at the Enhanced level. Even what would be mortal damage for others is something that he is likely to be able to recover from with time, though it may mean that he enters a prolonged, dormant state like a very deep sleep. He is also quite dexterous and limber, granting him Enhanced-level agility, though while he is as fit and strong as any human might be, he does not have strength beyond that of a normal, healthy human adult.
ADVANTAGES
Federico
Federico is Hector's familiar, a spirit who generally takes the form of a black and tan dachshund. He provides spiritual grounding and a bit of magical protection for Hector, in the manner that familiars do, as well as being able to share his spells and senses. Federico is a fairly powerful spirit, making him especially hard to injure or really harm, and through his connection to Hector helps him to reach his best potential as a magic-user.
The Lodge
Hector has modest personal wealth, enough to live quite comfortably, but hist most significant personal holding is a large, rather old, very well-maintained property at the north end of Gentleman's Bluff. The Lodge, as it is locally known, includes expansive grounds, a large house, and even an old lighthouse. The place is kept in excellent repair, and Hector runs it as a bed and breakfast, doing a robust trade and helping to promote local tourism as well.
WEAKNESSES
Distractable
Hector is intelligent, perceptive, and highly experienced. Unfortunately, he can also get distracted fairly easily, as he's someone who takes great interest in the world around him, and sometimes at the most inconvenient moment, something will draw his attention or break his concentration, which can mean that at times even his most careful plans, magical or otherwise, can have unexpected complications at times.
Romantic
Hector is a very romantic person, and he can easily get caught up in big, wild feelings. This can mean he wears his heart on his sleeve, and he can really be led by his emotions, becoming easily caught up in such things. This is far from universally bad, but it can also be a complication when what the heart wants gets him into one kind of trouble or another.
