Alec Moreau comes from a respectable family, modestly well-known in witch high society but not extraordinary. His parents are currently living the good life in Europe, while Alec chose to return stateside after deciding to live independently...well, independently apart from his trust fund.

Now, he's just making his way in the world. Fortunately for him, he has all the things he really needs to make that fairly easy for him: he's financially well-off, he's a talented witch, and he's basically got the world at his fingertips. Now, he just has to figure out what to do with it.

Perhaps destiny will find the way forward for him.

Background

The Moreau family is modestly well-known in witch high society. They're not extraordinary, but they're respectable, and Frederick and Daphne Moreau are the current shining stars of that family. Their only son was born Aleksander Tybalt Moreau, usually called Alec, and they raised him with every privilege they could give him, from private magic tutelage to the more mundane trappings of moderate wealth. Alec had an easy life, but he also made the right kind of friends, so while he has been perhaps a bit sheltered and spoiled, he's not totally out of touch with the world and is actually shaping up to be a reasonably skilled witch in his own right now that he's out on his own.

SKILLS

Academics - Competent Level

Alec did well in school and has a reasonable, fairly well-educated understanding of most academics subjects, such as science, literature, and history. He has not extensively studied art, but he has spent enough times in museums to appreciate it.

Alchemy - Competent Level

Brewing potions is one of a witch's signature abilities. By combining various reagents, herbs, and other ingredients according to mystic recipes and using magical practices, witches are able to produce magic in a bottle, salve, or other such preparations. A major strength of potions is allowing a complex effect to be prepared ahead of time, then rendered portable for quick enactment at the time of need. This means that one of the great strengths of a witch is being able to brew up magic in advance, removing any need for casting or incantations when they are put to use.

Athletics - Novice Level

Alec is in good health and has normal levels of human strength and agility. He does not engage in any particular physical training, so he remains fairly basic in his ability.

Charisma - Competent Level

Alec is fairly experienced at talking to people, being charming, and paying attention to others and his situation. He has generally good social awareness and can manage a ruse or lie when he needs to.

Occultism - Competent Level

The occult Craft includes herbalism, spellcraft, research, the preparation and performance of rituals, awareness of the supernatural world, and more. A practicing witch is competent and versed in all these things, understanding the properties of plants and their role in magic, knowing a variety of spells and how to use them, and certainly knows how to seek out information they don't already have. Whether based on their own knowledge or using a grimoire, they are able to recognize, analyze, and counter spells, and even come up with original spells or alter existing ones.

Survival - Novice Level

Alec knows enough about nature and survival to find herbs and things he needs for spells when they are called for. He could get by in nature reasonably well with the right magical or mundane tools or equipment. He is not overly fond it, though, and prefers a comfortable bed to camping.

ABILITIES

Power: Adaptability - Enhanced Level

Some witches possess special gifts, and Alec has developed an exceptional adaptability and resilience. To start, he is effectively ageless and immortal. He's also physically more durable than humans and can recover from nearly any injury at a fair speed, though this does not grant him any immunity to pain. Mentally, he has a strong will and resilient mind, making him better at resisting mental influence or attacks.

Alec has learned to use his adaptability to make his body somewhat mutable. He can heal injuries, and his body has very limited shapeshifting ability. He can alter the size and structure of his body, in whole or in part, though he must take in extra matter (by consuming calories) if he wants to gain mass overall. He cannot control this effect sufficiently to appear to be another person, nor can he take on any non-human shapes.

More complex alterations require active concentration, while simpler ones may last until he sleeps, at which point he returns to his normal state. Changes that do not significantly alter his natural form, such as regulating hair growth, remain indefinitely. He seems to return to perfect homeostasis every time he does this, which seems to allow him to heal nearly any injury or ailment.

Power: Awareness - Enhanced Level

As a fairly gifted witch, Alec is sensitive to magic and other mystical forces. He can generally detect the presence of spells, enchantments, or supernatural creatures nearby without difficulty, and he can often identify the nature of such when observed, especially if he has a reference available. It is difficult to fool him with illusions or other deceptions.

Magic: Witchcraft - Enhanced Level

Born with a talent for magic, a witch can accomplish quite a variety of effects through spellcraft. These range from conjuring, enchantment, transformation, warding, or illusion to the summoning or banishment of spirits or creatures, to a variety of other effects. For thematic, role-play, and plot purposes their abilities are nearly endless so long as they have the right spell available. For practical purposes, their castings all operate at the Enhanced level in most instances. With ritual preparation these may all be expanded, but any exceptional use would have to be approved by staff.

ADVANTAGES

Grimoire

Similar to a neopagan Book of Shadows, Alec has his own grimoire. This enchanted book was gifted to him on his eighteenth birthday, and it holds his accumulated magical knowledge. This includes a variety of spells, recipes, and useful magical references. When Alec learns a new spell or bit of lore, it is magically copied into his grimoire. The book is extremely resilient to physical or magical damage, and Alec can always summon it to himself by speaking a command word or, by the same spell, banish it to a tiny pocket of magical space somewhere. He cannot banish anything to this space apart from the book, so if he hid something in the book, that item could also be banished to or retrieved from that space.

Power of Three

Witches are well known for the "Power of Three." That is, they are especially adept at combining their individual strengths in order to cast much more powerful, impactful magics. Some of the most powerful spells a witch can cast require a circle of others to cast, and a circle is usually formed out of triads of witches, each wielding the Power of Three. Power of Three spells can be done by any three witches, but they have to have the same focus on their goal and ideally be on the same page. Witches who are at odds with each other may even have the spell fail or go wrong. For even greater effect, various groups of three can assemble into larger circles of nine or twelve, and a circle of thirteen is particularly potent.

Resources

While Alec's parents are quite wealthy, currently living somewhere in Europe and living among society's elite. One day he may inherit some of that wealth, but for now Alec must "make do" with a trust fund. This provides him with a monthly allowance sufficient to live a comfortable upper middle class lifestyle, even splurge on truly expensive things now and again.

WEAKNESSES

Cocky

Sailing through life with relatively few challenges has impacted Alec in more than one way. In addition to making him lazy, it has given him a perhaps inflated view of his own capability. It's not that he literally overestimates what he can do, but he tends to take things on without pausing to think whether it's the best idea. He's just used to having things go his way, so he can end up biting off more than he can chew at times.

Hedonist

Alec enjoys the finer things. He prefers to be comfortable and to enjoy pleasure in all things. He tends to want the nicest material things he can get, preferring everything from fine clothing and high-quality food to expensive furniture and electronics. Fortunately, he has the money to afford it, but it can also make him very picky about things at times.

Lazy

Sailing through life with relatively few challenges has impacted Alec in more than one way. In addition to making him cocky, it has made him fairly lazy. As a fairly gifted witch, someone who did well in school without having to try, and the son of a wealthy family, Alec has seldom had to really struggle or work hard for much of anything. He can be very capable when he wants to be, but he lacks ambition and generally prefers to do things the easy way whenever possible.
