Marc Spector is a jaded former mercenary who wanted to make a difference. But after a brush with death and a desperate bargain with an ancient god of the moon, it might be Marc himself who is different.
Marc finally has the chance to be the hero he always wanted...too bad that hero has a mind of his own, and then some.
Personality
Which one...? It's hard to tell just what you might get with Moon Knight.
Background
Marc's father was a rabbi and pacifist, and wished for Marc to be the same, or at least a scholar. Marc rebelled, wanting to do something active with his life, dreaming of heroics, and making a difference like the old stories of Captain America. After a fight with his father he left to join the marines, from there to the CIA, and finally becoming a mercenary. He grew increasingly disillusioned with his chosen path, often having to make morally grey decisions and often ending up hired muscle as much as anything.
Eventually a job in Egypt turned sour, one Raoul Bushman betraying their client to steal the wealth his archaeological dig had uncovered. Marc and others fought back, though he was mortally wounded in the process. He lay there dying before a statue of Khonshu, when Khonshu himself seemingly sent him a vision offering him his life and a chance for revenge, to see justice done in exchange for his faithful service.
Marc agreed, emerging from the tomb like some sort of vengeful wraith wrapped in the tattered cowl from Khonshu's statue, turning the tide against their attackers and even managing to save the remaining scholars.
Marc finally has the chance to be what he always wanted: a hero. Too bad that hero has a mind of his own, and then some.
SKILLS
Detective - Competent Level
|
Marc is an experienced and observant investigator with an eye for detail...though Jake's cab having a knack for being in the right -- or wrong -- place at the right time also doesn't hurt.
Martial Skill - Competent Level
|
Moon Knight is a skilled combatant, though with a tendency to try and barrel right through danger to achieve his goal where most sensible people would dodge.
Pathfinder - Competent Level
|
Capable in various vehicles from cars to motorcycles to some planes, Jake especially is a skilled driver with a talent for navigation, particularly in his home turf.
ABILITIES
Gear: Armor - Enhanced Level
|
Like any good Knight, Moon Knight's suit is armored. It can deflect most small arms fire, and at its strongest points it has even very briefly withstood the fire of a machine gun.
Power: Endurance of Conviction - Enhanced Level
|
Khonshu does not have much sympathy for excuses, and Moon Knight consequently has become abnormally, even supernaturally tolerant of hardship or pain. Pushing himself to his absolute limits or throwing himself in harm's way to achieve his ends is something he will do far more readily than others might, and he's gotten good at it. While he is martially adept and capable of speed and dodging, he rarely relies on such defensive tactics. His manner of fighting, while skilled, also tends to be aggressive, bordering on reckless. He has been known to take punishing blows or grievous wounds in a fight if he thinks it will allow him to land his own, counting on his conviction and endurance to see him through where his enemies falter.
Gear: Gadgetry - Enhanced Level
|
Moon Knight wields a variety of gadgets from crescent throwing darts to his telescoping truncheon that serves also as a grappling hook.
Gear: Glider - Enhanced Level
|
Moon Knight wears a very flexible cloak that allows him to glide from one point to another, and slow his falls. Due to the flexibility required, it is completely unarmored and as such can be damaged rather easily.
Power: Moonlight Healing - Enhanced Level
|
Whilst in direct bright moonlight, Moon Knight's healing is increased, allowing him to heal bruises and scrapes in minutes, superficial bullet wounds in hours, and even averting potentially fatal wounds, though they would likely not heal completely in just one night of exposure. Limbs cannot be regrown and this ability cannot save him from instantaneous death, even if the injury was dealt under a full moon.
Limitation- This ability is dampened if the light is obscured and does not function if the moon is new.
Power: Moonlight Strength - Enhanced Level
|
While in direct bright moonlight, Moon Knight's strength is increased, though this is proportional to the current phase of the moon. During a new moon his strength is normal for a human of his build, while under the light of a full moon, Moon Knight could perhaps lift a car overhead.
Power: Night Vision - Enhanced Level
|
As Khonshu's Avatar, Moon Knight can see in the dark clearly within his line of sight.
Power??: Psychic Dissonance - Basic Level
|
Due to housing multiple people in the same body, Moon Knight's mind can be highly confusing and initially resistant to most mind readers, though with effort and annoyance, reading his mind is not an insurmountable proposition. Mind control or possession is similarly problematic, as when one personality is subdued, the other three will be quick to step up instead. Controlling Moon Knight is like a psychic game of whack-a-mole unless the attacker is capable of controlling all four minds at once.
Power: Spiritual Sense - Basic Level
|
Moon Knight can detect most spectral beings and divine connections where a normal human could not, due to his connection to Khonshu. Whilst most gods, other avatars, demons, ghosts, etc. can be sensed, the more powerful of these magical beings can block out this ability with their own magic.
Power?: Undying Soul - Basic Level
|
As Marc insists he died when he was chosen by the god of the moon, it follows that Khonshu, the god who now owns his soul, can send it back and give him life again should he happen to die a second time...or find a new avatar who doesn't die so much. Not something Marc cares to count on.
Effectively this means Marc can come back from the dead after at least a full night has passed since he was killed. Depending on plot situation, it may take as long as the next full moon.
ADVANTAGES
Steven might just be good at making money, or his god might be pulling some strings to fund his work. Either way, Moon Knight is generally not hurting for money.
WEAKNESSES
Moon Knight believes he is first and foremost in servitude to the God of Vengeance, Khonshu, in exchange for his powers and life. This means that at times he is given tasks to carry out Khonshu's wishes, whether they mesh with his own goals or not. These can be sent via visions, voices, or hallucinations of the moon god, invisible to others. Often Moon Knight and Marc end up at odds over this, though they tend to ultimately go through with Khonshu's will; fighting the god who holds your life in his hands rarely ends well, after all.
Whether it's a natural occurrence, the calculated result of a god's meddling, or simply the consequence of a man driven to mental instability due to a traumatic near death experience, Moon Knight's mind is strange. He may not remember conversations or activities that took place even shortly prior, though this disconnect occurs most often between markedly different activities. He is known to hallucinate, and may sometimes go quiet and unresponsive for long stretches, or start shouting and appear argumentative or unreasonable for no apparent reason. Sometimes he thinks he's a Twin Cities cab driver, sometimes a Belton financier. Sometimes he remembers the life he lived before being Moon Knight, and sometimes Moon Knight is the only thing he can remember. This can cause him extreme distraction at times, and if an internal upset occurred at an inopportune time, it could leave him with no memory of where he is, what he's doing, how to access his own bank accounts, or even how to fight. It tends to make those who know him for any length of time consider him dangerous and antisocial at worst, unreliable at best.
Moon Knight wears a pendant around his neck under his costume that helps stabilize his mind. It is not technically directly necessary for his divine abilities to function, but it would unbalance him significantly to lose, greatly increasing the likelihood of him forgetting important information or losing needed skills at unfortunate times.
