Alexei Pedersen

Alexei--Lex or AK, depending--works construction, mostly under the table. He spends much of the rest of his time in the library or on the street. He's not as homeless as he looks, but only just. He's a little more honest than he looks, but maybe barely.

Personality

He's a little prickly unless he thinks you're trying to push him around--then he's a jerk. He can usually be reasoned with. Sometimes, though, something's clearly not right with him.

Background

Alexei Karl Pedersen, despite a rather exotic name, was born in a very non-exotic urban industrial center of the Midwest. His father was Danish and disappeared when he was a toddler; his mother followed not long after. He lived with her sister, too many kids, and not a lot of attention long enough to get through 10th grade, then dropped out. One thing led to another led to his finishing high school in juvie, where he was incarcerated for theft until age 19. He headed for Gotham City when he got out.

Alexei began working on construction sites as a day laborer, and he has done that kind of work for the past decade and a half. It's a kind of work that fits his personality: temporary, generally paid in cash, no need to pretend to be interested in playing some kiss-ass game, and not always technically legal. He's smart and reads voraciously, but he's got no patience for the structure of schooling.

SKILLS

Biker - Competent Level

Enhanced reflexes make him a rider who can usually get away with his own recklessness.

Brawling - Novice Level

He can throw a punch. He can kick without landing on his ass. It's pretty basic.

Construction Trades - Competent Level

He's a skilled carpenter, can lay brick and tile, and do most everything construction-related.

Electrical Work - Novice Level

He started to learn this but now avoids it. Things tend to go wrong.

Mechanic - Novice Level

He pretty much knows how engines and other systems in a bike (and, to a lesser extent) a car work, can do maintenance, and can fix basic problems.

Street-Smart - Competent Level

He can generally both stay out of trouble and cause it (and then get away before things get too hot).

ABILITIES

Power: Electric - Basic Level

Alexei can manipulate electricity: that is, can interrupt, increase, or redirect electrical current. He can do this well by touch, less well by proximity. He's only done this with power distribution lines, never with transmission lines (the big pylons out by the highway).

Power: Reflexes - Enhanced Level

He can dodge things traveling below around 200 mph (so, arrows but not bullets), and his balance is such that he could run along a tightrope without thinking about it.

Power: Shock - Basic Level

Alexei is able by touch or by touching a conducting material to deliver an electrical shock for up to 100 mA for up to five seconds. He also has a limited ability to "store" electricity for up to five minutes and release a shock up to 3x the normal maximum.

Power: Strength - Enhanced Level

Alexei is far stronger than human level, able to bend and twist metal bars, smash through most non-armored structures, and break through a brick wall with a sustained, moderate effort.

WEAKNESSES

Anti-Authoritarian

He has *big* problems with authority that are partly political and partly just a personality trait that he tends to be stupid about.

Auditory Processing Disorder

He has problems distinguishing speech from background noise, especially (again) when stressed and in loud environments.

Distrustful

He's not trusting most of the time. If he's stressed, it gets worse and becomes something close to paranoia.

Poor

He lives hand-to-mouth and always has.
