Personality
Ivian was the more rouge type, not that he wasn't honest, just dishonest with his parents because he didn't want to become what his parents and his brother strived to be; stuck up and rude to the people of the lower society. Ivian wasn't like them at all and he kept to himself. His parents never really knew of his magic as he kept the other mages from telling his parents with how much he paid them. It was a bargain. They got paid extra while keeping a secret, and it lasted for a few years of his teachings and training as they would go outside and practice far far away. He's fitted by elegancy, due to the fact how he was brought up. Once one gets to know him, though he starts to act like any other young adult that isn't raised by royalty; Outgoing, adventurous, flirty, and kind. Sure if you mess with him he'll probably fight back, actually.. he WILL Fight back if you mess with him in the wrong way as say something mean or attack him head on. He can play off his elegancy in any environment, which may help him be able to succeed, but he cringes at it when he has to use it.
Background
Early Life
Ivian was born to a family whose members were something of a throwback, elven nobles who looked down on "commoners" and thought themselves quite superior. From a young age, this never suited Ivian. During his childhood, he was driven to learn things for himself and not slack to live a life of idle wealth and privilege, as his parents did. Often, he closed himself off in his room, just for the sake of not wanting to associate with his parents, in whose footsteps he did not care to follow. Their ways led him to eschew high society in general, fearing that other elvish nobles would behave the same as his parents did. Instead, he wanted to escape that life and have no part in any of it. He wanted to live his own life, not be a part of his parents' world. He felt he had been born into the wrong life, wrong society, and wished for a different life. To keep his mind occupied he would spend much of his time reading, experiencing other ways of life through the pages of his books. As a young child, he read hundreds of books, perhaps thousands, and took full advantage of the teachers and tutors his parents hired, for in their own way they did value education.
One night, while exploring the library of his family estate, he picked up a rare book, which had lain in a disused corner of a room for storing books not kept on display. It looked extremely dusty and ancient, much different than the well-kept books presented in the rest of the library. He took the book and began to study it, and indeed it wasn't like any other book. It was a book of magic. From then on, he began to focus on spending his time studying the spells in the book, teaching himself what he could and practicing the spells. When he could teach himself no more, he sought out other mages who could guide him further, meeting them in private areas of the estate. He enjoyed learning magic, seeing studying its lore as much preferable to the life his family wanted for him. Ivian paid the mages who taught him out of his personal allowance from the estate, and he thanked them for teaching him the ways of magic. He expanded upon what they taught him, continuing his studies on his own, as he knew in his heart and in his mind that he was suited to become a mage. He had known it since the moment he found that book.
Afterwards
His parents finally figured out what was going on with their son. Ivian had an older brother who thought much as their parents did and who Ivian resented, shrugging him off every chance he got. Really, they only saw each other when Ivian joined the family for meals. At every opportunity, his older brother would ask Ivian questions like, "Why can't you be like mother, father and I?" Ivian would stay silent, not answering him, and just walk off or excuse himself from the table. It was pointless to argue. His parents never really knew of his magic, as he paid the mages who taught him well to ensure their silence. It was a bargain. They got paid extra while keeping a secret, and it allowed his training to go on for years, undiscovered by his family as they would find remote areas of the estate to practice in.
One day his parents, with his brother present, finally confronted Ivian, as they had a growing suspicion about him. Ivian ended up arguing with them both, arguing that they had a much better son for them and pointed toward his older brother. Ivian then ran to his room to gather up a few of his items, his books mostly, and a couple of odds and ends. Ivian escaped from the house by tying several of the expensive blankets and sheets from his bed together into a rope, then he climbed out of the window and down to the ground. He didn't even realize that he had his dressing gown on still, as he was already on the grounds. It was too late. He pulled the rope of bedding down and left it on the ground. No one tended to go behind his chambers, anyway. He ran straight for the woods. He wanted out of there, and he didn't care if he had to fend for himself. That's what his magic and training were for. Besides, healing had become his strong point in magic, so he wasn't worried. He wasn't fit for nobility, anyway, at least not the way his parents saw it, and he wanted to learn more.
