Emery's been through a lot in his life. He started out as a boy genius, developed an AI all for himself, almost hijacked a prototype fighter jet from the government (but got caught) and finally tapped into latent psychic abilities he never knew he had. It's been a roller coaster for him and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. What's next in store for the psychic genius? Stay tuned to find out!

Personality

Emery is cocky when it comes to smarts or tech, but doesn't mind deferring to others when something is out of his comfort zone - such as combat. He has the potential to be amicable as much as he can be an utter brat. Genesis is his foil and does a good job of tempering his worst qualities. If it weren't for her, who knows how out of control his attitude would be.

Background

Emery was orphaned at a young age when a lab accident killed both of his parents, prominent scientists in their respective fields - neurobiology and robotics. The incident caused Emery to withdraw into himself, focusing instead on the technology that so fascinated him and which he had a natural aptitude for. A genius and prodigy, he came across some journals belonging to his parents years later revolving around the research they had been doing. Setting himself on a course to follow in their footsteps, he became determined to join their research in order to create the perfect companion - an artificial intelligence.

It did not take him long to succeed. Dubbing her Genesis, he kept her a secret until he could find somewhere to house her. Genesis was a masterful AI, and soon the two of them hatched a plot to get her off of his network and installed somewhere. With her assistance, they hacked into a military database and sought out a vessel with the right specifications necessary. Eventually, they found a prototype jet which looked like it might fit the bill. Unfortunately, before they could get to the part of the plan where they stole the craft, he got caught. Equally impressed and annoyed with him, the military cut him a deal - his freedom in exchange for his service. This wasn't really a bad deal, as far as he was concerned. He negotiated that he got to keep the jet, of course. Genesis could be installed somewhere, and he would have something to do. Once Genesis was safely housed in the fighter jet, which he named Dawn's Impulse, the government granted him a special gauntlet which would sync to the ship. This would permit Genesis to go anywhere with him. Sounds great, right?

There's always a catch. In this case, the catch was that the military wanted to use nanite technology to keep tabs on Emery and Genesis. Normally he would have objected completely, however, Genesis assured him the technology was benign and would cause no change in his body. Well, guess what? Genesis was wrong. See, what no one knew was that Emery had latent psychic abilities. Once the nanites hit the blood vessels of his brain, everything lit up like fireworks on the Fourth of July. Now finding himself with untapped psychic potential, Emery isn't sure what to do. One thing is for sure, he'd better not let his benefactors at the military know about his new tricks or who knows what they'd ask for him to do next.

Deciding to go by the moniker Psynapse, because it sounded cool and why not, he ventured out into the world to explore and do all the things. What things? Well, the government hadn't asked for anything yet. He knew it would only be a matter of time before they wanted him to use Genesis for something, but in the meantime the sky's the limit!

SKILLS

Computers - Expert Level

Software? Check. Programming? Check. Hacking? Wouldn't you like to know? When it comes to the world of computers and electronics, Emery's savvy is bar none. He can navigate networks better than most to find whatever he wants, including getting into parts that are less than public. He has the aptitude to find anyone or anything that has a digital signature, although he tries to use his skills only for good things. He is equally skilled at manipulating and maintaining computer systems of any kind, whether it be a single-user device, an entire network or even things on a much larger scale.

Dance - Competent Level

Alongside his interest in music, Emery learned to dance along to the beat. But in his case, he focused on a variety of hip-hop and house dance moves, including various forms of breakdancing. As a result of these moves, he is a decent acrobat on the floor.

Music - Competent Level

Emery spent a lot of time alone as a youth and turned to music as a distraction. He quickly found that his favorite type of music was electronic and dance music and learned how to mix existing songs and come up with his own beats. Once Genesis came into the picture, it became even easier to do.

Piloting - Novice Level

Emery's abilities when it comes to steering a vessel of any kind are severely limited. With the help of technical guidance systems, something he's actually good at using, he can more or less figure out Start, Go and Stop. Don't expect him to jump at the opportunity to man the helm or to pull off any fancy maneuvers. No, this is purely for emergencies only.

Technology - Expert Level

Aside from his expertise in all things computerized, Emery has an excellent grasp on other pieces of technology. Given that most tech is based on some kind of software, it stands to reason that he can apply his skill with one to the other. He is familiar with a number of different devices and systems, particularly holographic interfaces as they allow him more control over whatever it is he may be manipulating. Through this, he actually has the potential to function decently as a pilot under the right circumstances.

ABILITIES

Power: Force Field - Basic Level

Emery can maintain a low-level simple force field around his body that keeps him from getting hurt. Harder hits may not penetrate but will still injure him from the impact. The force field only protects against physical injury. This protection does not extend to his clothes. Perks include walking barefoot and not getting wet in the rain (though his clothes still will).

Innate: Intellect - Supreme Level

Inheriting his superior cognitive skills from both of his parents, Emery has a gifted mind and eidetic memory. He is more than capable of holding his own when it comes to a battle of wits and excels at mental feats in general. Since the knowledge he acquires isn't forgotten, the more time he spends researching and learning the smarter he becomes. He isn't aware of the fact that most of this is a result of his latent psychic abilities, the neurons in his brain firing far faster and more often than they might for others.

Power: Telekinesis - Enhanced Level

Emery's telekinesis allows him to lift and move things with his mind up to what he could naturally, although his fine manipulation skill is weaker. He can also exert a decent degree of raw force when necessary in a certain direction. This can translate to both simple utilitarian uses and a more defensive maneuver in combat.

Power: Telepathy - Basic Level

Emery currently has the capacity to open simple mental links with other individuals. They allow the exchange of thoughts and images. Basically, his telepathy is on the scale of mind-speaking. Whether or not the potential exists for this to be expanded on is unknown.

ADVANTAGES

Dawn's Impulse

The state-of-the-art fighter jet granted to him by the US Military, it has no weapons installed whatsoever. In lieu of weapons, it is more resistant and durable, faster and more maneuverable, and has cloaking technology. It is equipped with such a degree of technology that Genesis can pilot it far better than Emery ever could.

Genesis

The artificial intelligence created by Emery. Anything a standard computer can do, Genesis can do better. Anything a typically skilled person with a standard computer can do, Genesis can do /much/ better. She can calculate, she can hack, she can run queries of the internet and any database she has access to. She processes at speeds faster than a normal human and controls the Dawn's Impulse for Emery. She also brings all the sass. She is installed in his ship, the Dawn's Impulse, however a gauntlet attached to his wrist allows her to travel with him and sync up to nearby networks.

The Gauntlet

Using his gauntlet, Emery can extend a cable and connect Genesis directly to any mainframe or system which would grant her access to all the data housed there, protected or not (depending on how effective she is at getting past their security). Her connection to the gauntlet is in real-time via powerful wireless technology, which allows for access to the internet at all times as well as remote control of the plane. The gauntlet has a microphone and speakers, allowing Genesis to 'speak' to Emery. It also has a holographic projector, which lets him create displays of data. By turning the projector into a holographic keyboard, Genesis can translate his 'key presses' into data input, for example something he is trying to search or a specific text string he needs to input.

WEAKNESSES

Military

Hacking into a military database with the intent to steal a prototype fighter jet isn't something that goes unnoticed. Now, in order to keep his freedom, Emery works for the US Military - whether he wants to or not.

Orphaned

Due to losing his parents at a young age, Emery does not form bonds easily and is slow to trust people.

Untapped Potential

Emery has not yet tapped into all of the psychic power at his disposal. Having just discovered this gift, he has yet to flex it. This means that as time goes on, it has the potential to grow into more than it currently is.
