Newton is a student at Queensmouth Academy. The baby of the Xanthos clan, Newt's older brothers include Nero (Oldest), Nicodemus and Nolan (twins). He is studying the occult and arcane. He is an artist and explorer. Living in the shadows of his three impressive brothers, he has a need to prove he is his own person.

Personality

Newt is the baby of the family. He comes from a long line of powerful magic users and is the youngest of them all. He has a lot of big shoes to fill. He is also a free spirit. He is not opposed to going and getting lost in the woods exploring for days. He is an artist and loves nature. On top of that, Newt has an aversion to wearing clothes, especially shoes if he can help it. He has a greater connection to the earth when he is standing bare footed. Newt feels he has to work twice as hard to keep up with his big brothers. He spends a lot of time studying when he isn't working on his art. There is always a side project that he is working on in the back somewhere. He is fearless, his brothers used to use him as a test subject and then the other times he would volunteer to do things to try and show off for his brothers. First to jump off the cliff into the water, even if it means he might die. At least he had the thrill of the jump. He also feels a deep need to keep his brothers happy. He will do anything for them, they are his heroes. The ones who protected him when the storms came at night. The ones who showed him how to do everything. There is an unconditional love and bond that no one can understand. While they may fight with each other, no one can mess with one of the Xanthos boys. He would throw himself in front of a bullet for any of them.

Background

Newton Omega Xanthos is the youngest of four brothers of the Xanthos family. Legacies of a long line of mages with a strong sense of familial loyalty and tradition. At an early age, it was obvious that each of the four brothers showed an affinity for a different and particular type of elemental magic, which they continued to study and develop as they got older. Perhaps because his brothers were older than him, Newt seemed to be much younger when he was tapping into his magical potential than his brothers were. Newt was always trying to keep up with the boys. It seemed like he skipped the crawling phase and just went right into running around and causing trouble. He always got into things. He had no fear in the world, why should he? He had three big brothers protecting him. Magic for him was second nature. He tapped into the earth energies with ease. He was always playing in the dirt anyway. It helped that he was built sturdier than his bigger brothers. Never, fat, just like a angelic looking cherub with his fire hair and chubby cheeks. That build became chiseled muscle as hormones took over and he started focusing on physical activities.

Newt always had a thing for nature. He was a good boy, he just liked to explore and have adventures. He joined the scouts at an early age to help him focus his energy. He learned about the world and nature and he stuck with it all the way through the years. He followed the code of honor to a tee and then made it all the way to master ranks ahead of the other boys in the scouts. Around 10 years old, he started tapping into his artistic abilities. Another outlet for his energy. He was so zen when he was working on his art projects. They helped clear his head and he could get lost in his artwork. When he wasn't doing art, he was out exploring nature. He loved studying for school and would spend every free moment making sure that he kept his grades as good if not better than his brothers. While he was a natural with magic, some of the other subjects he had to work extra hard at. But he never complained, and he kept studying. He enjoyed the study of non-mundane subjects at his prep school. And somehow with all of this, he was able to maintain a garden at home and school.

Newt was super excited to start at Queensmouth but very nervous. He was a legacy and his brothers were still in the school. However it became easier when he fell in love with his subjects that he was taking at school. And he also found out that he had more independence from his brothers than he thought he would. After the initial introduction period. He found the people at Queensmouth treated him like his own person and not the baby brother of the Xanthos boys. It is now time for Newt to explore himself and build his own magical legacy, outside of the Xanthos name.

SKILLS

Artist - Expert Level

Newt is a very talented artist. He loves all sort of drawing and painting. His strongest talent is definitely in sculpting. He has a fine eye for detail and creating things with his hands.

First Aid - Novice Level

Newt has basic first aid training from his time in the boy scouts. He knows how to perform cpr and tend wounds. He has a basic knowledge of various treatments for injuries one might sustain in the wild.

Hand to Hand - Competent Level

Newt is on the school wrestling team and he actually was quite good for his weight class. His record was undefeated. He is very competent in wrestling and pinning down his opponent. He was also trained in other combat styles like tae kwon do and ju jutsu. He can handle himself in a fight.

Herbology - Competent Level

Newt has spent some time studying various plants. From the mundane world plants all the way to the supernatural stuff. He is a variable encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to different types of plants and the uses for them. He also tends a small garden of his own that grows all sorts of plants for healing and potions all the way to basic stuff for his brothers to cook with.

Knowledge - Competent Level

Newt has finished his education at Queensmouth Prep ahead of schedule. He is a bright intellect but his family has always been focused on scholarly aspect. Even though he is young, he has higher level of knowledge and intellect than most his age. He excels at all sciences but earth science and biology are top tier for him. The arts, geography and history are also favorites to study. He is always working to improve himself and keep up with his brothers.

Occultism - Competent Level

As a student of Queensmouth Academy, Newt has studied the arcane, occult practices, ritualism, mythologies, spiritualism, divination, and general knowledge of the supernatural world. He has an affinity for cryptozoology and anything working with crystals like scrying and divination.

Survival - Competent Level

Newt spent years as a boyscout and as such he learned tracking and wild life survival skills. He can live in the wilderness for indefinite amount of time. Relying on what the land has provided.

ABILITIES

Magic: Crystal Energy - Enhanced Level

Newt's connection to the earth and the minerals in it, has also evolved into a more advanced magical ability of tapping into energy that crystals have in them. The larger and more pure a crystal is, the more energy that is able to be stored inside of the crystal. Each type of crystal is different in the ways that it has to be charged. However, once you find out how to charge these magical batteries with energy, they can be refilled. Some crystals cannot store much energy, and some cannot be recharged easily. Each crystal is different. This source of power helps with magical exhaustion, as he can use the crystal's stored energy instead of his own. The stronger the spell and draw of the energy the more likely a crystal is destroyed or rendered "burned out." A burned out crystal cannot be recharged. Crystals can also be applied to charms and fetishes that are made. They provide energy sources to magical items that don't have a source of their own. A fully drained crystal has a chance of exploding and injuring the person draining the energy. Crystals are very useful in ritual magic, and he is often tending to his crystals like they were pets. Each one requires different things to be cared for. Drawing on crystal energy is not always recommended, as the battery is not as good or as powerful as an original source of power like the magic user themself.

Magic: Earth - Supreme Level

Newt was born and attuned with the gift of Earth Magic. His extensive abilities deal with all aspects of the Earth itself, including crystals, sand, stones, rocks, dirt, marble, mud, and concrete. He has supremely strong elemental affinity and is ability to summon, control and manipulate earthly substances and materials. He can sense the presence of these materials. His powers work best when he is not wearing any shoes and is in contact with the ground. He can cause tremors, earthquakes, mudslides, avalanches and fissures. He can hurl and lift boulders, also call forth pillars of earth for a wall of rock, or spikes of stone from the ground, and swirling sandstorms to obscure vision. He can even fling pebbles and rocks at people with deadly strength and accuracy. He can easily tunnel through the Earth. For instance, Newt built tunnels and passage-ways to play in as a child. Although he was scolded, as this could be dangerous, he never was afraid of a cave in. For him, moving through the Earth comes as easily as Nicodemus moving through water.

Magic: Golemancy - Supreme Level

As Newt's powers grew, he learned how to summon and create sentient creatures from the ground that obey his command. The more time he has to create them, the bigger and stronger they are. A quickly created golem made on the fly will not last as long as a golem that he took the time to mold before hand and then bring life to. These golems just follow his orders. They have no mind or personality and are purely constructs. If he doesn't give the golem a purpose after a while the magical energy will leave the construct. If it was a golem that he created on the fly with magic, it will dissolve into a pile of the materials used to create it once the magic effect binding it together ends. However, if it was a golem that was sculpted before hand over time, i.e. one of his statues brought to life, it will return back to a statue but will stay in the last pose it is in when the magic leaves its body. At the Supreme level: Newt can actually build a golem around himself, protecting his body and making him look similar to the Thing made out of whatever materials that he was able to summon around him. He gets the enhanced strength and durability from the magic.

Magic: Plant Control - Enhanced Level

Much less intense and powerful than his ability to manipulate Earth. Newt is also able to coax plant growth at an astounding rate. He can also use his abilities to make plants move. Causing trees and vines to attack. He can force plants to release other natural defenses. Like shooting out pollen or oozing natural poisons. He has a general sense of plant empathy. He can tell how a plant is doing, what it requires. He can transfer magical energy into plants to make them grow to extraordinary sizes. He has a good idea what most plants are and can tell what is dangerous and what is not.

Innate: Regeneration - Enhanced Level

As Newt became more in touch with his magical side, he found that he was getting sick less and less often than the other boys. Mundane sickness really didn't affect him much. His family just assumed that he was a happy and healthy kid, and then the umbrella incident happened where Nero convinced him to jump off the roof to see if he could make him fly. It was then that they found out the extent of his ability. Newt has enhanced healing and regeneration. Broken bones heal exponentially faster than a normal human. Scratches and cuts clot and heal almost instantly. Minor injuries can be practically ignored. Bruises are gone the next day, and more intense injuries can be healed in a matter of hours or days.

Power: Toughness - Enhanced Level

Newt's body is sturdier than humans by a great deal. His skin is tougher and he can take a great deal more physical abuse. They say it was because he was the baby of 4 boys and they were always tossing him around or beating up on him. He is smaller than his brothers, with a stronger build. He can take a lot more impact than others. He can survive a pounding, wearing his enemies down and then swooping in when they exhausted themselves from trying to beat him. It's like his skin can be as tough as diamonds.

ADVANTAGES

Crystal Collection

Newt has a very rare and extensive crystal collection. The crystals are not the run of the mill crystals you get at a mall. They are giant geodes and other magical gems that store energy. Newt has a name for each one and each has it's purpose. Some are just mundane crystals that look pretty and have sentimental value. Some are priceless and can't be found easily.

Family

Newt comes from a long line of traditional mages. They have a lot of expectations that they place on their children, the legacies to that line. But, at the same time, they also provide a support structure that makes sure that the boys want for very little. A home, a safe place to go, an education, an allowance, and a healthy trust fund are just a few of the benefits of being a Xanthos.

Secret Garden

Newt has a green thumb, well it's more brown from dirt but he has an extensive garden. His garden has both mundane and magical ingredients that can be used in cooking or in spell work. Some are just really fine specimens of fruits and veggies. He tends a garden where ever he is staying for an extended period of time. He has two secret gardens that he keeps private from most people. One at the Queensmouth Academy and one near his family Townhouse.

WEAKNESSES

Always Hungry

Newt has enhanced regeneration and toughness. As such he needs more calories to sustain his faster metabolism. The boy is always hungry. There is rarely a time when he isn't hungry. If Newt isn't hungry, something is wrong with him. When he eats, he eats more than others his size just to maintain his weight. Not eating can drain him like magical exhaustion. It takes a toll on his magic first and then physical aspects.

Baby of the Family

Newt is the baby brother of 3 very powerful and strong willed magic users. They are all talented in their own right. And he is in the shadows of all 3 of them. Newt feels he has to work extra hard to out shine his brothers. He also is the 'wild one'. He was the one that they tested all of the crazy theories. Like if Nero could make him fly if Newt jumped off the roof with an umbrella. Or sent him to go in to snatch cookies for them to snack on in the fort. But as such he also feels he has to work harder at being taken seriously.

Expectations

There are a lot of familial expectations placed on Newt and the rest of the Xanthos boys. He comes from a long line of mages and his parents have aspirations for their children. There is a constant pressure to live up to them. Uphold the family name.

Magic Exhaustion

Newt's magic is powered by his will. Casting small to medium spells and minor to moderate effects can be done with relative ease and maintained for some time, however, the more powerful a spell (whether larger in scope or intensity or longer in duration if it must be maintained, or if it is a permanent spell that takes a great deal of energy) the more quickly he will tire. Using too much energy will cause him to become depleted, weak, and exhausted, requiring a full eight hours of rest before he can cast again. If he has been casting supreme-level spells, he may end up unconscious for up to a full 24 hours. The use of crystals for energy can reduce the downtime of recovering from the drain or prevent draining if he uses the crystals as a power source. The more powerful the spell the higher chance it has of rendering a crystal 'dead' if drained of too much energy. Some recharge better than others.
