Having discovered the secret identity of Batman as a young boy, Tim eventually sought out the masked vigilante on his own. Somehow, he ended up taking on the mantle of the Boy Wonder himself, and has since established himself as a talented young hero in his own right, both at home in Gotham and across the world with the Titans.
Personality
Tim's pretty complex. He's a teenager, and sometimes he does act his age, especially when he has a sarcastic comment to make, but other times he's way too serious. That has a lot to do with all of the horrible things he's seen as Robin, because that changes you. He's quieter, and stronger. He can think on his feet and adapt. Even as a child he was incredibly driven, and training under Batman has only enhanced that- to the point it might be called stubbornness, or possibly obsession. He also doesn't have the same lack of self-confidence that a lot of teens do, because he knows what his limits are, and his strengths and weaknesses. There's no room for doubts under the cowl.
As Robin, he's a balancer. He's there to keep Batman from straying too far into the darkness, to watch his back and help him in any way he can. That's his job. Batman needs Robin. But he's not at Batman's side 24/7, either. Robin is a hero in his own right, fighting against the darkness alongside the rest of Gotham's vigilantes. He's not just a sidekick. Gotham is his city as much as it is Bruce's, he was born and raised there. And he's just as willing to lay down his life to protect it.
Background
When little Timmy Drake was just a boy, his parents took him to the circus. He was too young to remember most of the evening, but a few things do stand out: Dick Grayson performing a perfect quadruple somersault, the Flying Graysons falling, and then...
The Batman, swooping down from the rafters.
That's where it all started, really. He became obsessed with Gotham's Dark Knight and, soon enough, the Boy Wonder that became Batman's partner. He cut out newspaper articles about them, read forensic books, took martial arts lessons- all to be like his heroes. And then one day he saw a video clip of Robin performing the exact same quadruple somersault that was permanently engrained into his memory.
After that it wasn't hard to connect the dots. He never told anyone about his conclusions, but eventually Tim, then thirteen, set out on a quest to find his heroes.
It didn't quite work out the way he expected. Both Dick and Alfred convinced Bruce to take Tim on as his new protege, and after several months of physical and mental training with Bruce, then more abroad, he made his Gotham debut as Robin.
His mother was killed before he'd officially put on the mask, but his father had survived, eventually discovering that he was Robin and, at one point, forcing him to quit. That didn't last long, of course, and Jack Drake came to tolerate his night time vigilantism. He's spent several years since as Batman's trusted sidekick-turned-partner.
SKILLS
Athlete - Competent Level
|
Tim is in the best shape someone his age is capable of being in, thanks to an intense training regimen and strict diet designed by Batman himself. Whether it's tumbling out of harm's way, chasing criminals across Gotham's rooftops, or outlasting an opponent in physical combat, he's as close to peak condition as anyone that's baseline human can be.
Though years of training, Tim has cobbled together a personal combat style from several different disciplines, utilizing hand to hand, weapon and acrobatic techniques. That training was enhanced by training with Lady Shiva, making Tim one of the finest martial artists of his generation, with room to continue growing in skill in the future. He can quickly identify a target's weak spots and is well-read and practiced in a variety of combat tactics.
Tim's had an intuitive grasp of deduction and an incredibly keen eye since he was little, and now that he's a student of the World's Greatest Detective, he's as much an expert on the subject as the most respected investigators and forensic scientists in the criminal justice system.
Like all the Bats, Tim knows how to get around without being seen, whether it involves skulking in the shadows or blending into a crowd. His skills at prestidigitation, lockpicking and escapology are up there with some of the best stage magicians in the world, and he's up to date on all modern interrogation techniques. As a potential undercover agent for the Bat, pretending to be someone he's not through the use of disguises, changes in body language, and voice are secondhand to him, and he even has a good poker face.
Strategist - Competent Level
|
Though he hasn't had a great deal of experience, Tim is a natural leader. Whether it's thinking on the fly on the battlefield or preparing a trap for one of Gotham's most nefarious villains, Tim can map out an effective strategy in his head and then put it into play. He's also great at chess.
Tim attends the best private school money can buy. That fact alone is enough to give him a very well-rounded education, but on top of that, Tim is just fantastically smart. His memory is almost perfect, and he picks up on new things very quickly. He's spent a good chunk of his free time- and time under Bruce's tutelage- furthering his knowledge, so chances are, if it's been studied, Tim probably has at least a basic understanding of it.
Does it have a hard drive? Tim can probably hack it. Moving parts? Tim most likely knows how to take it apart and put it back together again. Wheels? He may only have had his license for a couple of years, but Tim's been driving since he was thirteen. You don't get to have all the gear if you don't know how to use it, after all.
ABILITIES
Tech: Battlesuit - Enhanced+ Level
|
Designed by Skyboy and powered by organic power cells that draw from Kryptonian biomass, Tim's battlesuit is designed to give him a fighting chance against the kind of cosmic level menaces that they tend to find. Tim considers the suit to be an object of last resort. His own human abilities plus a little helping hand from Knick's alien tech should be enough. But when you are facing down a couple of Red Lanterns, for instance, or Darkseid, it is time to break out the equipment to let you fight on an even playing field. Much like Kon himself, the suit melds Kryptonian and Terran bio-functions to operate.
Currently, the suit has about 20 hours of use time per charge. This suit is represented by shifting into his Battlesuit phase.
OOC Note: The battlesuit is designed for use against specific threats, such as alien invasions or other dangers that are more of a high-end metahuman level than the typical Gotham crime-fighter is equipped to deal with. The battlesuit will never be used in or around Gotham itself, as that would be inappropriate for Gotham as a location, unless there is a specifically approved plot reason to do so.
Tech: Cyber-Streetwear - Basic+ Level
|
Another set of gifts from his Kryptonian friends, Tim now has access to a set of gear designed to bridge the gap between his merely human status and earthly threats beyond the level of the average Gotham villain. Tim rarely, if ever, uses this technology while fighting crime within Gotham itself. Partially out of respect for Batman's stance on metahuman upgrades and partially because it just wouldn't be sporting to go after the Penguin or Riddler with advanced tech. Killer Croc or Clayface, on the other hand, well, that's a different story.
In addition to a new, more 'casual' costume, including a Red Hood-style jacket, Tim's Streetwear suit is represented by shifting into his Cyber-Streetwear phase.
Tech: Nanyte Enhancement - Enhanced Level
|
Using nantyes developed by Knick Alen of Earth H, Tim has access to metahuman levels of resilience and damage resistance. This specialized version of the nanotech enhancement gives him just barely superhuman endurance and resistance to physical damage, resistance to toxins and disease, including cell damage from light radiation, as well as moderate healing factor. It has also suspended his natural aging process by repairing cell damage and replication errors on a genetic level as they happen. This technology is Kryptonian in origin, tailored to Tim's DNA by Skyboy. While it self-replicates in his body for the indicated duration, once they pass from the host organism, the nanytes quickly become inert micro-crystals and cannot be replicated.
Another side effect of the nano-crystals allows Tim to access and self-power Kryptonian technology that would usually be incompatible with human physiology. An example of that would be the modified Kryptonian battlesuit gifted to him by Skyboy and Superboy.
Currently, the nanytes Tim has in his system last, like the battlesuit's charge, approximately 20 hours on their own. After that, he must re-dose with them in order to keep them active in his body. It is possible to take a time-release version of multiple doses at once, allowing the power to effectively last longer, but eventually the nanytes will pass from his body and restore him to normal until he is dosed again.
ADVANTAGES
The domino mask comes with a reputation. Tim has made a point of building bridges in the heroic community since becoming a vigilante and has made several allies on the street, which means there are a great many people he can turn to if he ever needs help or information.
The Robin suit is based off of Batman's, though with a few key differences. His is built with a thinner nomex-kevlar weave and less armor plating to keep it light and maneuverable, with an integrated computing system to supplement his hacking and detective work. It has the same stealth capabilities as the Batsuit, and is moderately flame- and shock-retardant. The cape assists him in gliding and has weighted tips for use in combat.
The domino mask is a more compact version of the Batman's cowl. It has several visual modes, including thermal imaging and night vision, and a HUD that connects wirelessly with his suit's mainframe. His communications suite is accessed through the mask.
The Redbird is a motorcycle custom-built from the ground up by Tim himself. It can outrun most other land vehicles even though it's heavily armored with several offensive and defensive systems hidden on the frame. A stealth mode allows it to operate in almost complete silence, and in camouflage mode it changes appearance to look like a common street bike.
Tim has access to a lot of gear and supplies, mostly stored in a series of hidden "nests" across Gotham (and several more globally) that are known only to him, and function both as temporary hideouts and equipment caches. He has a personal net worth in the scope of millions and keeps several thousands of dollars in cash on hand in case of emergencies, and he enjoys the perks of living in a mansion with a butler and every luxury imaginable.
Tim swaps out the gear on his belt depending on his current circumstances, though the basics of his load-out are: the grapple gun; multiple shuriken, smoke pellets, and flash-bang grenades; a PDA linked to his suit computer; a first aid kit; rebreather; tracers; a universal tool including lockpicks; and, of course, his collapsible staff.
WEAKNESSES
For all of the things Tim has accomplished on his own, he knows that there is nothing more important than his responsibility to the Bat. While he may be a hero in his own right now, he will always consider Bruce his mentor, one that expects the best out of him, for him to abide by his strict moral code, and to put the mission first, always. Just being associated with the man puts him danger because there are plenty of people willing to go through him to get to Batman.
It wouldn't take much for someone to make the leap from Tim Drake being Robin to the identity of the Bat himself, and that would just be the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of people who would be at risk if Tim's secret identity was compromised.
Robin has made a lot of enemies in the past few years. Most of them are extremely dangerous, and even more are absolutely stark raving mad. It means he has a constant target on his back.
CYBER-STREETWEAR FORM
ABILITIES
Tech: Flight Jacket - Basic+ Level
|
This apparently leather jacket is actually a clever bit of Kryptonian technology akin to Reed Richards' 'unstable molecule' cloth. At a subverbal command, the material of the arms and sides of the jacket can extend into 'wings' that allow Tim to glide long distances, especially if he uses the jacket in conjunction with his Grav Boots.
Tech: Force Disks - Enhanced Level
|
As the name suggests these are hockey puck sized and shaped disks that, when thrown, are surrounded by coherent energy fields. Depending on the setting when thrown, these can be 'bouncer' disks, which rebound from solid surfaces, retaining most, if not all, of their original kinetic force for 2-10 seconds, depending on settings, 'razor' disks, where the energy field comes down to a mono-molecular edge capable of slicing through steel (Tim won't use these on anything but outright 'monsters' and robots) and 'concussive' disks that release a massive amount of kinetic energy on impact. Tim will occasionally hit a wall, floor or object near a group of normal thugs to catch them in the blast wave, but he would never directly use one on a non-enhanced foe, for fear of doing serious damage.
Tech: Omni-Belt - Basic+ Level
|
This is actually a bandoleer, but it is also a miracle of Kryptonian science in a handy fashion accessory form. The omni-belt contains micro-fabricators that literally create whatever tool or gadget Tim needs when he taps the center lock of the belt and requests that item. He can create just about any earthly tech device that weighs under a couple of pounds and doesn't contain radioactive, poisonous or high-explosive materials. For instance, handcuffs, binoculars, lock picks, etc. Sustained pressure for five seconds on the central buckle, time enough to do a complete DNA scan, will deploy Tim's Battle Suit from Phantom Zone storage and materialize it around the wearer.
Tech: Tactical Mask - Basic+ Level
|
For once, this is good old human technology, though bleeding edge. With an augmented reality interface built in, Tim's domino mask allows him to see in low-light and IR modes, as well as run database searches from his location to the Batcomputer servers, anywhere on earth. This allows Tim to run facial recognition, license plate look-ups, criminal record searches, etc. It's not quite a field crime lab, but it's close.
BATTLESUIT FORM
ABILITIES
Tech: Energy Refractive Armor - Enhanced Level
|
Skyboy recognized a vulnerability to high energy attacks and thus designed the suit to be able to protect the wearer from moderate plasma and energy discharges as well. He still doesn't want to jump in front of any cosmic blasts if he can help it.
Tech: Enhanced Agility and Speed - Enhanced Level
|
While the suit does augment Tim's strength to the superhuman range, it is optimized to take advantage of his own skills and abilities. Thus the suit can grant Tim near Kryptonian levels of speed and agility in short bursts. Enough to dodge incoming laser weapons or target a being moving in the speed force, but only for a few seconds at a time. Still, judicious use of this ability puts the wearer on par with a great many powerful beings.
Tech: Enhanced Endurance and Strength - Enhanced Level
|
While not on par with the agility granted by the suit, Tim can exhibit brief bursts of super-strength, allowing him to lift and throw several tons, as long as he does it within five seconds or so. Conversely, his ability to withstand environmental hazards like toxic atmospheres, high gravity and lethal radiation is constant. This ability allows him to function freely in space or underwater.
Tech: Propulsion - Basic+ Level
|
Using gravity boots and a cloak that forms semi-solid wings, Tim is capable of flying in space or in atmospheres, for up to 10 minutes at a time. He still needs a ship to get around when going anywhere further out than a planet's near orbit.
Tech: Tk Enhanced Combat - Enhanced+ Level
|
Wearing the suit, Tim's punches, kicks, staff work and throwing attacks are boosted, at the moment of impact, with a strong burst of telekinetic force, allowing him to stagger and perhaps even defeat enemies who are much more powerful than he could handle as a normal human. Using this ability, he doesn't hit as hard as a Kryptonian, but it's pretty close.
Tech: Tk Force Field - Enhanced Level
|
This is a defensive screen of telekinetic force that allows the wearer to shrug off physical attacks that would be lethal to a normal human. While not at the same level as Superboy's own defensive abilities, it still allows Tim to survive a hit from a tank shell or parademon with only minor bruising. Getting hit by somebody with Superman level strength is still a very bad idea.
WEAKNESSES
All of Tim's gifted gear is Kryptonian in nature and needs to be charged with their power cells and can only be repaired by somebody with a working knowledge of their sciences and engineering. Earthly science just isn't advanced enough, and it varies from most other species' technology to the point where finding anyone to repair it, other than Knick himself, is damned near impossible.
Also, Tim doesn't know it, but his Omni-Belt and the Battlesuit itself are both fitted with location transponders that actually send their signals through the Phantom Zone, on frequencies that the inhabitants thereof usually can't hear. Thus Knick is able to locate Tim anytime he has his gear on, anywhere in the current reality they are inhabiting.
